Baghdad – The Iraqi Security Media Cell announced in a statement received by the Video News Agency today, Sunday, the gradual resumption of passenger and trade movement through three border crossings with Iran, namely Shalamcheh, Shayeb, and Mendeli, after completing the regulatory and technical requirements and updating the adopted systems and procedures.
The cell stated in the statement that the decision came based on the directives of the Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Ali Falih Al-Zaydi, and after reviewing the operational reality of the border crossings and identifying their organizational and technical needs, in coordination with the Border Crossings Authority and the departments and agencies operating therein.
It clarified that the procedures aim to enhance the security of the crossings and raise the level of organization and control, while maintaining the smooth movement of citizens and commercial exchange.
According to the statement, it has been decided to resume the entry of travelers through the Shayeb and Shalamcheh crossings starting from 6:00 AM today, Sunday, September 13, 2026.
It has also been decided to resume commercial movement through the Shalamcheh crossing starting from 6:00 AM on Monday, September 14, while trade will resume at the Mendeli crossing at the same time on Tuesday, September 15.
As for the Shayeb crossing, commercial movement there will resume starting from 6:00 AM on Thursday, September 17.
The Security Media Cell confirmed that the movement of transit and trade between Iraq and Iran has not stopped, indicating the continuity of operations on a 24-hour basis at the Zurbatiyah and Al-Munthiriya crossings.
The resumption of work at the three crossings follows administrative and security measures taken by the relevant authorities over the past two days, including a review of the systems and procedures and reinforcing the requirements for control and organization at the border crossings.
