The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Abdul Hussein Al-Moussawi, emphasized today, Sunday, the importance of national efforts to achieve a safe and radiation-free environment across all provinces.
The Ministry of Education stated in a statement received by the News Video Agency that "Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Abdul Hussein Al-Moussawi, chaired today, Sunday, a meeting of the committee concerned with cleansing all of Iraq, including the provinces of the Kurdistan region, from radioactive waste."
It added that "the meeting was attended by committee members representing relevant ministries and governmental and security agencies, where mechanisms for joint work and coordination to follow up on the cleansing procedures for the targeted sites and areas were discussed."
It clarified that "the attendees discussed the application of safety and radiation protection standards, ensuring the protection of the environment and the health of citizens," indicating that Al-Moussawi affirmed "the importance of national efforts and the integration of scientific, technical, and supervisory roles among the relevant entities to achieve a safe and radiation-free environment throughout the country."
It pointed out that the meeting was attended by the Deputy Chairman of the Committee, Advisor Dr. Hamid Majid Majbal Al-Bahli, a member of the Advisory Board, alongside representatives from the National Authority for Nuclear, Radiation, Chemical, and Biological Control, the Ministry of Environment, the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission, and the Cabinet Affairs Department and Committees in the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers.
Representatives from the office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, the Popular Mobilization Forces, and the Babil Governorate also attended the meeting.
