The Ministry of Agriculture announced today, Sunday, the successful cultivation of soybean crop in Basra for the first time, confirming the use of satellites and modern methods for planting the crop.
The official spokesperson for the ministry, Qusay al-Hatab, stated that "the Ministry of Agriculture has achieved remarkable success in cultivating soybean crop in Basra province, through the Qurna research station for the first time".
He added that "this success came as part of the activities of the national program for the sustainability and proliferation of high-grade seeds, where the ministry's teams took it upon themselves to expand smart agriculture, including soybean cultivation, and monitoring the growth of the crop and growth indicators through satellites, after neglecting it for more than 60 years".
He explained that "soybean cultivation was done in a new way, which is conservation agriculture, meaning without tilling, through space monitoring using satellites, and soil testing also via satellites, with unique achievements made by the Ministry of Agriculture through its teams in Basra province".
