The Iraqi veterans team will begin its journey today, Friday, in the second edition of the Gulf Cup for veteran players, facing its Omani counterpart in the tournament hosted in the Qatari capital, Doha, from October 30 to November 5, with participation from eight teams.
The Iraqi team enters the opening match with the ambition of winning and securing the first three points to boost its chances of competing for the top position in Group A, which also includes the teams from Oman, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia.
The team is led by coach Shakir Mahmoud, who relies on the experience and skills of his players to achieve a positive start in the tournament.
The tournament features the teams from Iraq, Oman, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia in Group A, while Group B includes the teams from Qatar, Bahrain, the UAE, and Yemen.
The Iraqi team aims to retain its title after being crowned champion of the first edition of the tournament, which took place in Kuwait at the beginning of last year.
