Egyptian MP Mostafa Bakri affirmed Cairo's rejection of any threats targeting its national security and sovereignty, in response to statements attributed to a leader of the Houthi group, who emphasized that Egypt makes its decisions independently and does not succumb to the dictates of any external powers.
Bakri stated during his program "Truths and Secrets" on "Sada El Balad" channel, addressing the Houthi leader: "Who are you? Know yourself... If you think Iran will dare you to strike a missile at Egypt, we will cut off your hand."
He added that Egypt will not accept any threat to its national security, stressing the continued coordination with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to confront threats targeting the security and stability of the region.
Bakri pointed out that Houthi attacks and attempts to divide Yemen exceed their repercussions beyond Yemeni territory, noting that the security of Saudi Arabia is, in his words, linked to the security of the Bab el-Mandeb strait and Egyptian national security.
These statements come following the approval of the Egyptian House of Representatives to delegate President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi to take necessary measures to support Saudi Arabia and defend its territory, sovereignty, and sanctities against external assaults.
The parliament did not specify the nature of the support that Cairo might provide, nor was there a decision to send Egyptian forces to Yemen, while Cairo confirmed that its actions are of a defensive nature and aim to protect Saudi territories.
