U.S. President Donald Trump has canceled his scheduled campaign rallies this weekend in Iowa and Kansas, preferring to support Republican candidates through phone and virtual gatherings targeting voters across the United States.
Trump was set to hold two campaign rallies, the first in Kansas on Saturday and the second in Iowa on Sunday, but the Republican National Committee announced Thursday evening the cancellation of in-person events and their replacement with what it described as a "72-hour sprint" through phone rallies.
The committee explained that this move aims to enhance Trump's ability to connect with voters nationwide, noting that virtual events will be held in about 20 states, with the possibility of adding more states later.
In a related context, Trump visited South Carolina on Thursday for the second time in a month, amid Republican interest in the competition for the state’s U.S. Senate seat, given the challenge facing Democratic candidate Annie Andrews against Republican candidate Lindsey Graham.
