A knowledgeable source in the Ministry of Natural Resources in the Kurdistan Region revealed today, Sunday, that only 50 million liters of white oil (kerosene) have been allocated to be sent to the region during the current month of November, confirming that this quantity is insufficient to meet the needs of citizens and only covers the requirements of mountainous areas.
The source explained that the regional government has requested the federal government to secure 268 million liters of kerosene, aiming to distribute 200 liters to each family, noting that the request is still awaiting final approval to commence the supply process, while the price for a liter supplied to the region is 250 dinars.
He added that the Kurdistan government is considering the possibility of purchasing white oil from local markets and distributing it to citizens at subsidized prices, to avoid a fuel crisis during the winter and ensure the provision of heating necessities for families.
The source pointed out that Baghdad's delay in establishing a clear timetable for sending the allocated shares raises concerns, especially with the distribution of kerosene having started in Baghdad, Babel, Mosul, and other provinces since last month, coinciding with the drop in temperatures in the mountainous areas of the region, which has led residents to use heating methods earlier.
