The Ministry of Environment announced today, Sunday, the implementation of a large-scale afforestation campaign in Anbar province, which included the planting of 4,000 seedlings, as part of its efforts to combat desertification, increase green spaces, and enhance vegetation cover.
Ahmed Al-Mahmoud, the head of the contemporary environmental team in the Baghdadi district, stated in a comment followed by the Fadio news agency that the campaign was carried out under the supervision of the Anbar Environment Directorate and the Hit Environment Unit, in cooperation with the administrations of the Baghdadi and Jaba districts and the Baghdadi municipality.
He explained that the initiative included planting various types of trees and shrubs suitable for the climatic and environmental conditions of the area, aiming to limit the spread of desertification, improve environmental quality, and protect natural resources.
He noted that the campaign will continue in the next phase to include other areas in the province, emphasizing the importance of monitoring the saplings and providing irrigation and care requirements to ensure their growth and sustainability.
He confirmed that the success of the initiative depends on the continued cooperation between government institutions, local administrations, and the community, which contributes to expanding the green area and improving the environmental situation in Anbar.
