The Minister of Electricity, Ali Saadi Wahib, addressed the Ministry of Finance on Sunday to include a section in the federal budget law for 2027, aimed at stabilizing 6,836 meter readers on the permanent staff.
According to a letter issued by the Ministry of Electricity and directed to the Ministry of Finance / Budget Department, which the "Video News Agency" reviewed, the "public electricity distribution companies have confirmed the actual need for the services of meter readers and the availability of financial allocation for them."
The letter explained that the number of meter readers is distributed as follows: 1,805 in the General Electric Distribution Company of the North, 1,423 in the General Electric Distribution Company of Baghdad, 1,445 in the General Electric Distribution Company of the Center, 1,364 in the General Electric Distribution Company of the Middle Euphrates, and 799 in the General Electric Distribution Company of the South, bringing the total to 6,836.
The Minister of Electricity pointed out that "this group has acquired experience in the field of work and does not place any additional financial burdens on the public treasury," calling for the inclusion of a section to stabilize them in the federal budget law for 2027.
