The Baghdad Police Command announced today, Monday, the arrest of suspects engaged in selling foreign currencies without a formal license.
The command stated in a statement received by "Video News Agency" that "a force from the (Bab al-Shiekh) Police Department and the Rapid Reaction Force (Fifth) along with intelligence, in coordination with the (organized crime) units, conducted an official search inside a (fake) shop that did not have a sign in the (Kifah) area / Stock Market, and apprehended 3 suspects, seizing 3 phones containing (financial remittances) as well as buying and selling foreign currency without a formal license from the Central Bank of Iraq."
It pointed out that "large sums of money were also seized inside the shop as follows: -
* An amount of (20) thousand US dollars.
- (170) thousand US dollars
- (7,300) thousand US dollars.
- (14) million Iranian currency in denominations of (1000) tomans.
- (25) million Syrian currency in denominations of (200) liras.
- (4) million and (500) thousand Syrian currency in denominations of (2000) liras.
- (3) million Syrian currency in denominations of (1000) liras.
- (4) million Syrian currency in denominations of (5000) liras.
- (70) million Iraqi dinars in denominations of (25) thousand.
- (20) million Iraqi dinars in denominations of (10) thousand.
- (70) million Iraqi dinars in denominations of (50) thousand.
- (250) thousand in denominations of (25) thousand.
- (4) million Iraqi dinars in denominations of (50) thousand.
It indicated that "all the mentioned amounts were handed over to a third party according to the decision of the investigating judge with an official receipt, and the suspects were arrested in the act according to the provisions of Article (57) of the Banking Law in conjunction with Article (456) of the Penal Code, and a formal search and investigation report was organized, and the suspects were taken to the Organized Crime Directorate for further inquiry."
