After the Iraqi ship... a tanker seized by Somali pirates since April has been freed.

The government television in the semi-autonomous Somali region of Puntland reported on Tuesday the liberation of the oil products tanker (MT Honor 25), which was seized by pirates last April.

The government television stated that the pirates who were holding the tanker have been arrested and will be presented to court, according to what was reported by the "Reuters" news agency.

The tanker was hijacked on April 21st last year, about 30 nautical miles off the coast of Puntland, and there were 17 crew members on board, including 10 Pakistanis.

This rescue operation follows a similar anti-piracy effort carried out by Puntland last week, when the region's naval police announced that they had liberated the oil tanker "Cebu 1," which is under American sanctions and was hijacked by Somali pirates last August.

The tanker "Cebu 1" belongs to an Iraqi businessman who was forced to use a tribal force to liberate the tanker with the participation of a security force from the Somali region, while reports varied regarding the accuracy of this narrative.

Piracy has resurfaced off the coast of Somalia in recent years, raising concerns about shipping movement through the Gulf of Aden and the western Indian Ocean.

A previous wave of Somali piracy between 2008 and 2014 caused disruptions in one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world, resulting in billions of dollars in losses to the global economy and leading to the payment of hundreds of millions of dollars in ransom for the release of ships and their crews.
