Former MP Raed al-Maliki warned today, Wednesday, of the dangers of media disclosure and the leaking of the names of MPs and officials expected to have their immunity lifted due to corruption or forgery charges, stressing that this puts pressure on law enforcement agencies and gives defendants a chance to escape.
Al-Maliki stated in a post on his official account, which was reviewed by the "Video News Agency," that "disclosing the names of those who will be held accountable and MPs from whom it is intended to lift immunity due to corruption or forgery charges during the legislative recess is incorrect," indicating that "many pieces of information reach politicians due to their communication with officials, but it is not appropriate to discuss or leak them to the media."
He explained that "such leaks create pressure on the relevant authorities for law enforcement, which hinders accountability measures," adding, "If the matter were related to media savvy and information showcasing, we would have to abolish intelligence and security agencies."
Al-Maliki continued, stating: "After these leaks, investigative and law enforcement agencies will face different pressures, and before the legislative recess in a month or two, 'the birds will fly before being caught,'" concluding his remarks with the phrase: "Not everything that is known is said."
