The General Directorate of Traffic announced today, Thursday, that it has taken field measures to reduce traffic congestion in the capital, Baghdad, coinciding with the increase in traffic flow following the start of the new academic year. It confirmed the enhancement of its patrols and the organization of vehicle movement during peak morning hours.
Colonel Haidar Shaker Mohamed, the director of the media and public relations department in the directorate, told the News Video Agency that the rise in the number of vehicles using the roads, especially during peak times, has contributed to the increase in traffic jams in Baghdad.
He added that the directorate has strengthened its presence in main streets, vital intersections, and around schools and universities, alongside addressing violations and random parking situations, with the aim of improving the flow of traffic and reducing congestion.
He explained that the directorate coordinated with relevant authorities, including the Baghdad Municipality and the Roads and Bridges Department, to limit traffic jams, as well as implementing awareness campaigns to encourage drivers to adhere to traffic laws and regulations.
He pointed out the involvement of administrative staff in organizing the flow of traffic during peak morning hours, which extend from 6:30 AM to 9:00 AM, coinciding with the movement of students and employees heading to schools, universities, and government offices.
The directorate confirmed the continued enhancement of the presence of traffic personnel in major streets and intersections, calling on vehicle drivers to adhere to traffic instructions, which contributes to alleviating congestion and reducing accidents in Baghdad and other provinces.
