The Ministry of Oil announced today, Thursday, an increase in the quantities of processed gas in the Gharraf oil field in Dhi Qar Governorate to 37 million standard cubic feet per day, as part of the first phase of the associated gas investment project.
The deputy minister for gas affairs, Izzat Saber Ismail, stated in a statement received by the News Video Agency that the opening of the new gas processing and compression system contributes to increasing the quantities of processed gas in the field and enhancing the utilization of the associated gas produced during oil operations.
He explained that the project aims to support the supply of gas to power plants, reduce the environmental impacts resulting from burning it, and maximize the benefit from national resources.
Ismail praised the efforts of national teams at Dhi Qar Oil Company, in collaboration with Petronas and the secondary contractor Italy Flood, in completing the project.
He confirmed the ministry's continued support for gas investment projects and the development of the necessary infrastructure for the second phase, which contributes to increasing the rates of associated gas investment and strengthening the energy sector in Iraq.
The associated gas processing and compression system (GCS) was inaugurated at the second separation station in the Gharraf field, with an operational capacity ranging from 15 to 22 million standard cubic feet per day, as part of the ministry's plans to reduce gas flaring and utilize it to support energy production.
