French health authorities announced today, Thursday, the recording of the first globally documented human case of the "Shamonda" virus (Shamonda), in a patient with severe immune system weakness, who died in early October while undergoing treatment in the city of Lyon.

The French ministries of health and agriculture stated in a joint statement, which was reviewed by the "Video News Agency," that "the virus belongs to the Orthobunyavirus family and is transmitted by small biting insects, noting that it has been known to spread among farm animals, without any previously documented human infections."

The statement added that "the virus has been circulating for decades in regions of Africa and Asia, and the recorded case represents the first known discovery of it in humans, making it an exceptional case in both medical and epidemiological terms."

It was clarified that "the patient was suffering from a serious illness that required his hospitalization in Lyon, in addition to severe immune system weakness, without providing further details about his condition or confirming that the virus infection was the direct cause of his death."

It emphasized that "based on the scientific data currently available, there is no observed health risk to the general population related to the virus, despite this unprecedented human infection."
