As the month of Ramadan approaches, Muslims around the world are increasingly interested in the date it will begin in 2027 and the date of Eid al-Fitr, amidst renewed questions about the astronomical predictions for the start and end of the holy month.

Astronomical calculations indicate that the first day of Ramadan in the year 1448 AH is expected to coincide with Monday, February 8, 2027, although the final date remains dependent on the sighting of the Ramadan crescent and the official announcement from the relevant authorities in Islamic countries.

As for Eid al-Fitr, it is astronomically anticipated to occur on Tuesday, March 9, 2027, if Ramadan is 29 days, or on Wednesday, March 10, 2027, if the holy month is completed with 30 days. The official determination of the Eid date remains linked to the confirmed sighting of the Shawwal crescent.

According to the "International Astronomy Center," the central conjunction, or central new moon, will take place on Saturday, February 6, 2027, at 15:56 UTC.

The center explained that according to the global Hijri calendar, which is based on the calculation of the visibility of the crescent, the beginning of Ramadan in both the eastern and western regions will be on Monday, February 8, 2027.

The center noted that this calendar relies on prior astronomical calculations and does not wait for the actual sighting of the crescent, as it is based on specific criteria for determining the start of the new lunar month.

It pointed out that some countries and organizations may adopt different criteria to confirm the commencement of the month, which may lead to variations in the start date of Ramadan from one country to another.

Despite the accuracy of astronomical calculations in determining the movement of the moon and the timings of conjunctions, the official announcement regarding the start of Ramadan remains within the jurisdiction of the competent religious authorities in Islamic countries, after verifying the crescent sighting according to their adopted mechanisms.

Muslims around the world are looking forward to the arrival of the holy month to prepare for fasting and worship, while families begin their preparations to welcome Ramadan, including preparing traditional Ramadan foods and drinks, as well as planning for the Eid al-Fitr holiday.
