Scientists at the astronomical laboratory of the Russian Academy of Sciences expect disturbances in Earth's geomagnetic field during this upcoming weekend.

A statement released by the laboratory, which was reviewed by the "News Video Agency," noted: "On Wednesday, scientists observed a flare on the sun, and calculations indicate that the solar winds resulting from this flare could reach Earth, causing disturbances in our planet's geomagnetic field on Saturday and Sunday."

The statement added that "the disturbances in Earth's geomagnetic field observed in the last twenty-four hours are subsiding, and the field is expected to return to its normal state by the second half of Thursday, although the activity of flares on the sun remains slightly elevated."

The rise in indicators of the Earth's magnetic field over the past twenty-four hours has been linked to the effect of a dense and fast-flowing solar wind stream coming from another coronal hole on the sun, with the Kp index exceeding the "4" threshold that separates calm magnetic conditions from disturbed ones multiple times. However, the Earth's magnetic activity did not reach the level of a magnetic storm.

Solar flares produce emissions of plasma that sometimes reach Earth, causing magnetic storms and disturbances in our planet's geomagnetic field, which can disrupt energy systems, affect the migration patterns of birds and animals, and also potentially impact the functioning of communication and navigation systems due to strong magnetic storms.
