Hundreds of protesters gathered today, Sunday, in Tahrir Square in the heart of Baghdad to commemorate the seventh anniversary of the October protests, amid rising demands and extensive security measures.
The protesters raised Iraqi flags and chanted slogans calling for reform and opposing foreign interventions, affirming their continued demand for fighting corruption, ending political quotas, improving services, and providing job opportunities.
Protesters stated that the commemoration serves as a renewal of the pledge to the martyrs of the protests and a commitment to the objectives for which the October protests took place, foremost among them the establishment of a state that meets the aspirations of Iraqis.
In this context, riot control forces imposed a security cordon around the demonstration, restricting the gathering of participants to the area around Al-Umma Park behind the Tahrir Monument, coinciding with an extensive security presence in the Al-Bab Al-Sharqi area to regulate traffic and secure the area.
