The rise in the exchange rate of the dollar against the dinar today, Thursday, has caused a state of confusion and severe paralysis in the Iraqi markets in general, and in the Shorja area of Baghdad in particular.
Citizen Osama told the News Video Agency that all economic problems in the country are now being addressed by raising the dollar's price instead of controlling and lowering it, expressing astonishment at the authorities' decision to reduce the value of the Iraqi dinar at the expense of citizens' daily sustenance.
He added that oil revenues and income from the sale of four million barrels per day are allocated to government salaries without the people seeing any of it since 2003, pointing out that the markets are experiencing a clear recession and stagnation in buying and selling activities, calling for a decrease in the dollar’s price and controlling the situation to address the crisis of inflation.
In the same context, grocery store owner Abdullah Jabr told the News Video Agency that the decision to raise the dollar's price has had a direct and negative impact on the market economy, causing a continuous and astronomical increase in the prices of imported food products.
He clarified that the markets have not seen any price stability since the issuance of recent government decisions and fluctuations in tax procedures, indicating that the increase in commodity prices has exceeded 15 to 20 percent, which has led to a lack of commercial movement and forced some merchants to sell goods at cost price.
He continued that the decisions taken have not benefited the citizen, employee, or business owner who has had a fixed income in the face of rising prices, calling on the authorities to hold the responsible parties accountable and manage oil resources and outlets correctly instead of burdening citizens with the consequences of economic crises.
