With the first drops of rain, the suffering of the residents of the Anana region in Babil Province renews, as the roads turn into waterlogged areas and puddles that hinder citizens' movement, putting students in a difficult journey to reach their schools, amidst calls for finding radical solutions to end this recurring suffering.
A resident from the area spoke to the news agency Video, saying, "Whenever it rains, water accumulates on the roads, and our children struggle to reach their schools, and sometimes they have to walk through the water," noting that "this situation poses a danger to them and affects their attendance."
Another resident spoke to Video, holding the local government and previous governments responsible for this neglect, as the suffering escalates each year without finding real solutions, demanding attention to the area and an end to the suffering."
A third resident said, "We want a radical solution, not just draining the water after every wave of rain, and we demand the treatment of water accumulation and benefiting from it as groundwater instead of allowing it to remain an obstacle to the movement of residents, students, and their daily activities."
Amid the residents' demands and the lack of solutions, the roads of the Anana region remain witnesses to a suffering that recurs with every rainy season, while its inhabitants await serious action from the concerned authorities to put an end to this problem and ensure their children reach their schools safely.
