The Arab League expressed, today Sunday, its strong condemnation and denunciation of the violations faced by the prisoners of Gaza held in the "Rakefet" section of Ramla prison.
A statement from the league received by the Video News Agency mentioned that "the Arab League expressed its strong condemnation and denunciation of the violations of human rights and systematic, recurring repression faced by the prisoners of Gaza held in the Rakefet section of Ramla prison, which led to injuries and burns for some prisoners."
The Arab League warned - according to the statement - "of the danger of these practices, considering them a blatant violation of international humanitarian law, especially the four Geneva Conventions of 1949 and their additional protocols, the Convention against Torture, and the basic principles of the treatment of prisoners. It emphasizes that such acts constitute crimes against humanity that require accountability and responsibility."
The league demanded "the immediate cessation of any repressive practices or mistreatment of Palestinian prisoners, ensuring their treatment in accordance with international human rights standards and international humanitarian law, and enabling the International Committee of the Red Cross and independent monitoring bodies to visit Ramla prison and the "Rakefet" section without restrictions, documenting the conditions and providing necessary medical care to the injured, and conducting an independent and transparent international investigation into these violations, holding those responsible accountable, and the immediate release of sick and wounded prisoners, as well as ending all forms of arbitrary detention."
The Arab League renewed "its emphasis on the centrality of the Palestinian issue in joint Arab action and its full solidarity with Palestinian prisoners and their families," calling on "the international community, the Human Rights Council, and the United Nations General Assembly to bear their responsibilities in protecting civilians and Palestinian prisoners, and to stop the policy of impunity."
