Residents of the 801 neighborhood in the Hay Al-Amil area of Baghdad organized a peaceful protest today, Friday, to demand the cessation of eviction procedures and threats targeting their homes.
One citizen told the Video News Agency that the residents of the area are facing ongoing threats of eviction and imprisonment from the investor, noting that she has lived in the area with her family since 2004, and that the investor is demanding that the residents leave and pay amounts of money to the Ministry of Finance or face arrest.
Another citizen told the Video News Agency that the area has agricultural characteristics and includes homes built at costs reaching 200 million dinars, but they are facing pressure to demolish their homes themselves or face imprisonment, pointing out that the compensation offered does not exceed 17.5 million dinars, which the residents collectively rejected.
Another woman spoke with deep sorrow and pain to the Video News Agency, stating that the residents are suffering from the danger of eviction and being thrown into the street, questioning why the poor and the children of martyrs are being targeted, and appealing to the Prime Minister and the state for urgent intervention to protect families, confirming that they have faced serious and direct threats, including the sending of individuals and groups to intimidate them and threaten to kidnap children to force them to leave their homes.
