The Gulf Football Union decided today, Sunday, to move the Old Players' Cup from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the State of Qatar, while adjusting its start date to October 10, 2026, stating that the reason for this is the lack of available stadiums in the city of Jeddah.

The Gulf Cup Football Union had previously decided to hold the Old Players' Cup at the beginning of next October in the Saudi city of Jeddah, following the conclusion of the 27th Gulf Championship.

The union had stipulated that participation in the tournament be limited to players over the age of 40, allowing each team to include only two players aged between 37 and 40 as an exception to the age requirement.

The tournament comes as an extension of the first edition held in Kuwait, which saw the Iraqi national team crowned with the title.

The tournament is expected to attract public and media interest, as it brings together a number of former Gulf football stars and reintroduces them to the competitive atmosphere, in a commemorative context that reflects the history and football legacy of the Gulf Cup championships.
