An Iraqi refugee residing in Italy since 2022, locally known as "Haider," caught the attention of passersby in the city of Belluno when he threw 50 euro notes into the street and on the sidewalks, taking them out one by one from a suitcase.
The scene attracted the attention of passersby, and one witness decided to inform the police, who arrived at the scene and managed to collect around 4,000 euros.
Initially, there were suspicions that the money was counterfeit, but investigations confirmed that it consisted of 80 genuine 50 euro notes.
The police waited several days in case anyone reported the loss of the suitcase or the cash, but no one came forward with a complaint. After the absence of anyone claiming ownership, the authorities decided to hand the money over to the municipality of Belluno.
The incident, reported by the Italian newspaper "Il Gazzettino," occurred on the afternoon of August 5.
According to circulating information, the man was homeless, and the source of the money remains a mystery; the man did not mention where he found the suitcase, and it is unknown to whom it belonged.
