The head of the security media apparatus, Major General Saad Maan, revealed the conclusion of a joint security agreement that includes about 17 strategic points between the federal government and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, confirming that the unity of the security decision represents the real bridge to consolidate stability and sovereignty, especially with the impending deadline for the withdrawal of international coalition forces.
Maan stated in a press interview that "the meeting held at the office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, chaired by the office director, Lieutenant General Abdul Amir Al-Shammari, the head of the Counter-Terrorism Service, the head of the Border Ports Authority, and leaders of federal security agencies, alongside the Chief of Staff of the Peshmerga and representatives of security formations in Erbil and Sulaymaniyah, discussed field, intelligence, and training files," emphasizing that "Iraq is recovering and moving toward becoming a significant player in the region through a unified sovereign security decision within a single state that does not infringe on the Peshmerga's specificity."
He added that "the agreement focused on enhancing the security of areas of mutual interest and activating coordination brigades to prevent the exploitation of any geographical gaps or voids by remnants of terrorism and smuggling gangs, in addition to forming a committee headed by the Border Ports Authority to conduct a comprehensive survey of the crossings and the border strip within the region, to close the unofficial ones and maintain those that meet the conditions to be subject to joint management, as well as regulating the irregular openings and enhancing the deployment and role of border guard forces with the support of the Peshmerga, especially on the Iraqi-Turkish border."
The head of the authority indicated that "the meeting also approved activating coordination through joint communication centers in Erbil and Sulaymaniyah to pursue individuals wanted by the judiciary, and to address the file of illegal foreign labor and their deportation according to Iraqi residency law in coordination with Baghdad, in addition to expanding joint operations to combat drug trafficking networks," confirming that "the discussions were characterized by complete harmony and significant understanding without recording any points of contention."
