The leadership of the Kirkuk Police Department revealed this evening, Tuesday, the truth about the fire that was reported to be coming from one of the graves in the "Sayed Alawi" cemetery and circulated by media and social media outlets.
The leadership stated in a statement received by the "Video News Agency" that it denies the "misleading news" circulated by some social media pages and media outlets regarding the "fire coming from one of the graves" in the "Sayed Alawi" cemetery, located within the jurisdiction of the Al-Qouri Police Center, which some attempted to portray as supernatural phenomena to incite panic among citizens.
It confirmed that as soon as these posts were observed, the director of the small town police department was sent, accompanied by a specialized team from the Civil Defense Directorate, to the specified location to investigate the circumstances of the incident.
It clarified that after a thorough inspection and field investigation, it was found that the fire was due to the ignition of "waste and debris" accumulated in a corner of the cemetery, and that smoke and flames were coming from beneath those debris.
The leadership indicated that a joint committee formed regarding the matter confirmed that there was no grave in the area where the fire broke out, and what was circulated was entirely false and merely an attempt to exploit an incidental incident to stir rumors.
It added that Civil Defense teams began to fully extinguish the fire and secure the site, while necessary measures were taken to ensure that such fires resulting from waste do not recur.
The strange incident that occurred at the Sayed Alawi cemetery in Kirkuk provoked astonishment and curiosity among visitors to the cemetery, after information circulated about flames coming from one of the graves, amidst a gathering of citizens to witness what had happened.
