Ooredoo Fiber Network's Director, Khaled Al-Hamadi, confirmed today in a statement to the News Video Agency that Iraq is on the verge of transforming into a global corridor and competitor for data transmission between East and West, highlighting the importance of its geographical location in connecting East Asia with European markets.
Al-Hamadi stated that Iraq has a significant opportunity to become a main link in data and information transmission operations through a project aimed at shortening the connection routes between East Asia and Europe, contributing to improving data transfer speeds and reducing response times.
He explained that the biggest beneficiaries of the project will be the end users, especially with the rapidly expanding artificial intelligence applications that require massive amounts of data and high transfer speeds, noting that the project could provide an advanced communication experience in terms of response speed and service quality.
Al-Hamadi pointed out that regional developments and the halt of navigation activities have impacted the progress of the project, as the submarine cable runs through the Arabian Gulf to Al-Faw in Iraq, confirming that the company is working with its partners and contractors to find alternative solutions and accelerate implementation phases to prevent further delays on the project.
He praised the facilities provided by the Iraqi Ministry of Communications, affirming that government support reflects the recognition of the project's importance in enhancing Iraq's position on the international data transfer map.
He added that the company continues to work in coordination with the Ministry of Communications and the companies IQ and ITPC to implement the project as soon as possible, enhancing Iraq's digital infrastructure and opening the door for it to take on a larger role in global data movements.
