Residents of northern Basra organized an open sit-in in the district of Al-Sadiq, demanding to address the service needs of their areas and developmental projects.
Participants in the sit-in confirmed that their demands had previously been agreed upon with the former government and the local government in Basra, but neither fulfilled its promises.
They called on the Prime Minister to visit Basra, listen to their demands, and assess their needs.
The demonstrators summarized their needs as the establishment of a university in northern Basra, a teaching hospital, and a road connecting the governorate to Baghdad, while the demands of the district of Al-Sadiq include restoring service efforts, constructing a bridge connecting the district to the district of Izz al-Din Salim, and providing job opportunities for youth in the oil fields, as well as ensuring that northern Basra receives its share of allocations and service files, including the education sector.
