The Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, has directed a joint meeting between the Minister of Oil and the American company Chevron to finalize the contract for the West Qurna 2 field, with a deadline by the end of this month.
The media office of the Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs stated in a press release received by the Video News Agency that Al-Mandalawi received a delegation from Chevron in his office in Baghdad to discuss prospects for mutual cooperation, developing the oil sector, and enhancing investment opportunities in it.
Al-Mandalawi called for the quick removal of obstacles present in the contractual terms with Chevron and for providing possible facilitations, in accordance with legal frameworks and authorities. He also directed a joint meeting between Minister of Oil Bashar Al-Abadi and Chevron to finalize the contract, no later than the end of this month, in support of government plans to increase oil production levels.
Al-Mandalawi affirmed reaching agreements with Chevron regarding the West Qurna 2 field contract, stressing the importance of activating the social benefit programs provided by the company under the contract agreement, through the establishment of health centers and hospitals, rehabilitating schools, implementing water and service projects, and supporting youth by providing job opportunities for local community members.
