UN resolutions on disarmament and arms control

The First Committee of the United Nations General Assembly adopted three resolutions presented by Pakistan today, Tuesday, concerning disarmament, arms control, and enhancing confidence-building measures at both regional and international levels.

The Pakistani Foreign Ministry stated in a statement that "the committee adopted a resolution on confidence-building measures in regional and sub-regional contexts without a vote, while another resolution related to conventional arms control at regional and sub-regional levels received the support of 180 countries."

It added that "a third resolution concerning providing security assurances to non-nuclear-weapon states was adopted earlier by a majority of 122 votes, with no opposing votes recorded."

The ministry pointed out that "the resolutions address cooperation mechanisms to reduce security risks and enhance trust and stability at both regional and international levels amidst rising tensions and challenges facing arms control frameworks."
