The Railway Police Directorate announced today, Tuesday, the launch of a wide campaign to remove unauthorized crossings along the railway lines in Baghdad, and it directed an increase in patrols to prevent their reopening and encroachment on train tracks.

The Director of Railway Police, Major General Sadiq Abdul Ghani Al-Atabi, stated in a comment that the directorate has begun a wide campaign to remove unauthorized crossings along the railway lines in Baghdad, based on the directives of the Deputy Minister of Interior for Police Affairs, with his field follow-up, to preserve the safety of citizens and public property.
He added that "unauthorized crossings pose a danger to the lives of citizens, cause accidents and collisions, and obstruct the movement of trains while slowing their operations, leading to damage to the railway infrastructure and public property."

He explained that "the campaign was carried out in coordination with the municipalities of Al-Dora, Al-Yusufiya, and Al-Mahmoudiya, with the participation of the engineering effort from the Iraqi Republic Railways, to remove the violating crossings and address the encroachments that threaten the safety of citizens and train movement."

He indicated that "officers from centers and task forces have been directed to intensify field monitoring and to deploy foot and vehicle patrols along the railway lines, in coordination with the security forces in the areas; to prevent the reopening of unauthorized crossings or the establishment of new ones, and to take necessary actions against violators."
