The head of the Iraqi Islamic Supreme Council, Sheikh Hammam Hammoudi, discussed today, Wednesday, with the chargé d'affaires of the British Embassy in Baghdad, Robin Milton, the developments in Iraq and the region, and the ramifications of the escalating tensions and American threats to resume military operations against Iran.
Hammoudi's media office stated in a press release followed by the Video News Agency that "the meeting addressed the potential consequences of any military escalation in the region, and the efforts aimed at containing the tension and preventing the widening of the confrontation."
Hammoudi warned of the dire consequences of any significant military escalation against Iran, stressing that this could ignite the entire region, while pointing to the efforts made by Iraq and the neighboring countries to prevent escalation.
Hammoudi called on Britain to take a more serious stance and activate its diplomatic role to contain the tension, emphasizing that war has proven its failure and that diplomacy represents the optimal way to achieve stability.
For his part, Milton conveyed the greetings of the British Ambassador Irfan Siddiq, who is currently outside Iraq, affirming his country's support for the Iraqi path aimed at restricting weapons to the state and the importance of Iraqi efforts in reducing escalation.
Milton noted that the British position has not supported the war ongoing in the region since its inception, pointing out the damage it has caused to the energy sector and its related infrastructure globally, and asserting that there are no military solutions to the current crisis.
