A source in the Iraqi Al-Zawraa Club revealed today, Wednesday, that the club's management is looking to terminate its contract with coach Bassim Qasim during the upcoming international break, following the team's poor results in the Iraqi Premier League and the Gulf Clubs Champions League.
The source stated in a statement followed by the news agency, "The management of Al-Zawraa Club has decided to end coach Bassim Qasim's tenure due to the unsatisfactory results achieved by the team in the past period, and the failure to meet the aspirations of the management and fans."
He added that "the management has set the upcoming international break as a deadline to end the contract, as part of its efforts to make changes at the coaching level and correct the team's path in the coming phase."
He pointed out that "Al-Zawraa's management has entered into serious negotiations with Iranian coach Ali Reza Mansourian to take over the team's leadership, noting that the coach has expressed his willingness to take on the challenge and oversee the training of the white team."
The source clarified that "Mansourian decided to leave Al-Student Club due to the financial crisis and the delayed payment of players' dues, in addition to the difficulties he faced in performing his coaching duties as a result of the conditions the club is going through."
These moves come amid the management's efforts to restore the team's balance and improve its results, enhancing its chances of competing for local and international titles during the current season 2026-2027.
