The Iraqi football league has advanced to sixth place in the West Asia region, according to the Asian Football Confederation's ranking for continental competitions, surpassing the Jordanian league after Al-Shorta's victory over Al-Hussein Irbid with a score of (2-0).
Iraq's cumulative score in the ranking has risen to 41.346 points, compared to 40.880 points for Jordan, which has dropped to seventh place, while the Iraqi league earned 7.333 points this year.
This progress enhances the chances of Iraqi football in retaining two direct spots in Asian tournaments for the upcoming season, one in the group stage of the elite AFC Champions League, and the other in the group stage of the AFC Champions League 2.
According to the ranking, Saudi Arabia topped the West Asian leagues, followed by the UAE in second place, then Iran in third, Qatar in fourth, and Uzbekistan in fifth, while Iraq came sixth, Jordan seventh, Kuwait eighth, Oman ninth, and Bahrain tenth.
