The First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Adnan Fihran al-Dulaimi, called today, Wednesday, for the establishment of a strategic political, security, and economic partnership to reinforce regional sovereignty away from external interventions. He clarified that Iraq's position is based on non-interference, promoting dialogue, and establishing peace, and not allowing its territory to be used as a launch pad for aggression against its neighbors from Arab and Islamic countries.
The media office of the First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives stated in a statement received by the Video News Agency that "the First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Adnan Fihran al-Dulaimi, held a broad meeting at the Iraqi Embassy in the Portuguese capital Lisbon with several ambassadors and heads of Arab diplomatic missions accredited to Portugal, as part of an Iraqi initiative to coordinate visions regarding the critical issues facing the region and explore ways to enhance Arab cooperation in various fields."
Fihran emphasized the importance of "unifying the Arab position regarding the challenges and critical issues facing the region," calling for "turning current risks into real opportunities by building a strategic political, security, and economic partnership that includes Iraq, Gulf countries, Egypt, Syria, and Jordan, which would enhance regional sovereignty, limit external interventions, and restore trust in joint Arab action."
The First Deputy pointed out that "the region is facing the repercussions of the US-Zionist aggression against Iran, and that the stability of the Middle East will remain threatened as long as the Zionist occupation exists," explaining that "Iraq's position is based on non-interference, promoting dialogue, establishing peace, and not allowing its territory to be used as a base for attacks on its neighbors from Arab and Islamic countries." He noted that "the Popular Mobilization Forces are an official security institution, and there is a law regulating their work that is set to be voted on soon."
Fihran announced "Iraq's serious approach towards economic openness to Southern European countries, offering promising investment opportunities to their companies," urging Arab countries to "benefit from the investment opportunities that Iraq offers."
He also called on "Arab diplomats in Europe to intensify their efforts to correct the stereotypical image of Islam and highlight its values based on tolerance and peaceful coexistence."
