Andrew Bailey, the deputy assistant director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), announced today, Monday, that he will resign from his position, leaving the agency after just over a year in the role.
Bailey, a Republican ally of President Donald Trump, left his position as a prosecutor for the state of Missouri to join the FBI, and indicated that he will be leaving to return to his family.
Bailey worked under FBI Director Kash Patel, helping to oversee investigations related to the elections, and was present earlier this year when FBI agents seized ballots from the 2020 election in Georgia.
Bailey wrote on social media: "I am confident that Director Patel will continue to reform the FBI, combat violent crime, defend the homeland, ensure strong organizational accountability, and restore public trust in this distinguished institution."
