The ministry stated in a statement received by the news agency that the Cabinet decided, during its session held yesterday, Tuesday, to eliminate customs duties imposed on imported solar energy systems to Iraq, in support of the shift towards renewable energy sources and to reduce the costs of acquiring them.
It clarified that the decision came following an official proposal submitted by the Minister of Electricity, Ali Saadi Wahib, to the Prime Minister, which included a request to reduce the customs duties imposed on solar energy systems and their components, aimed at encouraging citizens to acquire them.
The ministry added that it has completed, in implementation of the minister's directives, a draft regulation for connecting solar energy systems to the national grid, which includes 40 articles aimed at organizing the mechanisms for connection and exchanging electrical energy between citizens and the grid.
It pointed out that the proposed regulations will allow citizens, once approved, to connect their solar systems to the national grid using smart meters, which will contribute to reducing the value of electricity bills according to the quantities of exchanged energy.
The ministry indicated that it has contacted the State Council to finalize the legal formulation of the regulations, in preparation for submitting them to the Cabinet for consideration and approval according to the proper procedures.
It affirmed that these measures are part of its efforts to enhance reliance on renewable energy, alleviate the load on the national grid, support the stability of the electrical system, and improve the efficiency of its use.
