The President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Massoud Barzani, emphasized today, Wednesday, the need to reorganize relations with Iraq based on the constitution and the principles of partnership, balance, and consensus. He affirmed his support for the current Iraqi Prime Minister within the framework of the constitution and in protecting the legitimate rights of the Kurdistan people, preferring to resolve regional disputes through dialogue, negotiation, and diplomatic means.
Barzani's office stated in a statement received by the Video News Agency that Massoud Barzani met in Birman with the U.S. Acting Ambassador to Iraq, Steve Fagin, in the presence of the American Consul General in Erbil, Gwendolyn Wendy Green. He noted that if previous Iraqi governments had adhered to the principles of partnership, balance, and consensus, much greater gains would have been achieved for Iraq and all its components.
Barzani affirmed the support for the components of Kurdistan, especially Christians, based on respect and constitutional rights and the importance of amending the electoral law to ensure their ability to exercise their free will, indicating that the region's policy is based on not engaging in tensions and conflicts.
For his part, the Acting Ambassador expressed his gratitude for Massoud Barzani's role and support for the political process, reaffirming the United States' commitment to the security and stability of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region and the ongoing alliance within the framework of bilateral relations on security, economic, and political levels.
