Medhat Sengar, a member of the İmralı delegation from the Turkish Peoples’ Democratic Party, announced the transfer of the leader of the Kurdistan Workers' Party, Abdullah Öcalan, to a new residence within İmralı Island Prison, after he agreed to move to a building specifically prepared for him.
Sengar stated, during an interview with the Kurdish "Mediha Haber" channel, that the new building allows Öcalan to receive delegations, conduct official meetings, and convey his political messages, in addition to the possibility of meeting with journalists when necessary.
In this context, Turkish Nationalist Movement Party leader Devlet Bahçeli clarified that the building is not a villa as previously rumored, but rather a house of about 250 square meters, located within the prison's security complex, affirming that the transfer does not mean Öcalan's exit from detention.
For his part, Mehmet Öcalan, the imprisoned leader's brother, stated that the family had not received any official notification regarding this step, indicating that, if confirmed, it concerns the transfer from one building to another within the same complex, and not leaving İmralı Island.
Sengar pointed out that the "Peace and Democratic Society" process has faced a stalemate over the past two months, calling for Öcalan to be given a pivotal role in managing the political process and allowing the Peace and Political Commission to visit him in prison.
These developments come within the framework of the political settlement process that began with Öcalan's call in February 2025 for the resolution of the Kurdistan Workers' Party, before the party announced the end of armed struggle in May of the same year, and subsequent steps to surrender arms in northern Iraq, while the Turkish parliament approved a law paving the way for the reintegration of armed elements who end their organizational affiliation.
