The General Authority for Meteorology and Seismology warned today, Thursday, of the risks of flash floods and internal flooding in northern and central Iraq due to a wave of heavy rains expected to peak on Saturday and Sunday (November 7 and 8).
The authority mentioned in a weather report monitored by the News Video Agency that weather models indicate the impact on several cities in the country, especially in the northern regions, parts of the central area, and the eastern sections, due to a weather condition that includes intermittent heavy thunderstorm showers, accompanied by lightning and thunder, with the possibility of hail.
It clarified that the main risks are the potential for flash floods and internal flooding due to heavy rainfall over short periods, especially in low-lying areas, valleys, and regions close to water drainage channels.
It added that the rain in the rest of the country will be light to moderate in intensity, with the possibility of sharp and sudden weather fluctuations.
The authority expected the impact of the weather condition to end by the morning hours of next Monday, while some rainy formations may continue in the northeastern parts of the country, coinciding with moderate northwesterly winds and a noticeable drop in temperatures.
It urged citizens to be cautious and careful, to stay away from watercourses and flash floods, and to avoid crossing water-covered roads, while emphasizing the need to follow official weather updates and warnings in the coming days.
