The Chargé d'Affaires at the American mission in Iraq, Ambassador Stephen Fagin, confirmed on Saturday that the relationship between Washington and Baghdad is on the verge of a transformation in its nature, pointing out that "Iraq today is not viewed as Iraq yesterday."
Fagin said in a press statement obtained by the "Video News Agency" that when Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaydi visited Washington last summer, he carried a mandate from the Iraqi people to build a sovereign, secure, and prosperous Iraq.
He referred to Al-Zaydi's statement, which affirmed: "Iraq today is not viewed as Iraq yesterday... It has become a country full of great opportunities."
Fagin continued that President Donald Trump "clarified the aspirations of the American administration and the American people regarding bilateral relations: a fruitful partnership with the Iraqi people based on tangible and real results."
He noted that "the agreements signed during Al-Zaydi's visit covered sectors such as energy, healthcare, technology, and finance, amounting to $60 billion."
He stated that "during my time as Chargé d'Affaires at the American mission in Iraq, my goal is clear: to seek to deepen economic opportunities and achieve accomplishments that serve the interests of our two countries. We are on the threshold of a transformation in the nature of the relationship between the United States and Iraq, given our mutual interest in expanding trade opportunities."
Fagin concluded, "Together, we can and will continue this fruitful partnership, achieving accomplishments and attaining tangible and real results to ensure the prosperity of both the United States and Iraq."
