The political analyst Atheer Al-Shar' today, Saturday, confirmed that there is no evidence to prove that the targeting of the East-West oil pipeline in Saudi Arabia originated from Iraqi territory, pointing out that the rush to accuse some Iraqi factions reveals Riyadh's attempt to evade responsibility for the strikes it faces from the Houthis in Yemen.
Al-Shar' said in a press interview seen by "Faux News Agency" that "Saudi Arabia has been and continues to be subjected to strong strikes from the Houthis," considering that "directing accusations to Iraqi factions before the investigations are completed represents an attempt to create new justifications."
He noted that "Iraq has formed joint committees with the Iranian side to look into the circumstances of the events and verify the responsible parties," adding that "Saudi Arabia's request for U.S. President Donald Trump to participate in this file and his refusal, according to circulating information, indicates that Riyadh has begun to act independently and is seeking to find gaps or justifications to justify any potential aggression against Iraq."
He stressed the "necessity for Baghdad to take clear positions and measures to prevent the recurrence of attacks targeting Iraqi territory and its security forces, which previously led to the martyrdom and injury of dozens."
Al-Shar' continued that "the Iraqi government must take legal and diplomatic steps, including filing a complaint with the Security Council and the International Court of Justice, considering that Iraq has been subjected to a violation of its sovereignty and an attack on its territory and security forces," noting that "government silence regarding these attacks may be understood as acceptance of the Saudi narrative, despite what he said are results of previous Iraqi investigations confirming that the bombing operations did not originate from Iraqi territory."
He explained that "the continuation of Saudi threats before the investigations are completed may expose Iraq to new aggressions, urging the government not to be satisfied with internal investigations, but to take a clear official position that protects the country's sovereignty and prevents a recurrence of what happened previously, especially if the investigations do not clarify the responsible party for targeting the Saudi pipeline."
