After a post caused a crisis... France "apologizes" to the United States.

The French permanent mission to the United Nations in Geneva expressed regret over the publication of a statement that criticized an American vote in the General Assembly, confirming that the disagreement between Paris and Washington was limited to one vote and was not related to the defense of human rights.

The mission stated in a statement reviewed by "Video News Agency" that the disagreement regarding the vote does not pose an obstacle to the close dialogue between the two countries, nor does it affect their historic alliance or their ability to work together to promote peace, stability, and prosperity, including within multilateral institutions.

The statement was welcomed in Washington after the U.S. State Department suspended the approval process for appointing Aurélien Lechevrel as the new French ambassador to the United States, succeeding Laurent Bili.

The disagreement dates back to last July when Washington voted against the extension of Volker Turk's mandate as United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, prompting the French mission to publish a post stating that the United States was no longer a "beacon of human rights."
