A number of professors and students from the religious seminary in Najaf Ashraf organized a protest today, Saturday, against the suspension of Iranian flights to Iraq.
Members of the "Scholarly Gathering in Iraq/Najaf Ashraf" stated in a statement delivered during the protest, followed by the "News Video Agency," that the gathering "condemns the suspension of Iranian flights in Iraqi airports," considering that this occurs at a time when "the peoples of the region are in dire need of strengthening the bonds of brotherhood and cooperation, away from external pressures and dictates."
The statement added that Iraq, with its sovereignty, status, history, and holy shrines, deserves to have its decisions stem from the interests of its people and national will, especially in its relationship with Iran, which it shares "ties of religion, geography, history, and common interests."
It pointed out that "loyalty necessitates preserving the stances taken by the Islamic Republic alongside the Iraqi people during critical times, especially during the fight against terrorism," calling for building relations between the two countries on the basis of good neighborliness and mutual interests, away from pressure policies and sanctions.
The Scholarly Gathering in Iraq urged the relevant government bodies to "review the measures taken and uphold the independence of the Iraqi decision and its sovereignty," and to adopt what preserves the interests of Iraq, its people, and its relations with its neighbors, away from any external pressures.
