French courts issued a ruling today, Saturday, sentencing Moroccan singer Saad Lamjarred to 10 years in prison and detaining him inside the courtroom for the rape of a young woman he met in 2018 in Saint-Tropez in southeastern France.
Lamjarred had appealed, during the month of May, the sentence issued by the court of the city of Draguignan, which sentenced him to five years for rape.
The Draguignan court convicted the 41-year-old Moroccan singer on May 15, 2026, of the charge and sentenced him to five years in prison, following a trial that lasted four days.
Lamjarred appeared before the court then during a closed session at the request of the victim, while the court did not issue an arrest warrant against him.
The public prosecutor had requested a 10-year prison sentence, while his defense sought his acquittal from the charge, which Lamjarred continues to deny, asserting that the relationship was consensual.
The events of the case date back to 2018 when the plaintiff was working as a waitress and met Lamjarred in a nightclub, before agreeing to accompany him to the hotel where he was staying for a drink.
According to her account, he led her to his room and sexually assaulted her, while Lamjarred denied this account, affirming that the relationship was consensual between both parties.
The Moroccan artist has previously faced similar accusations in other cases, including a case dating back to 2015 in Morocco, and another in the United States in 2010.
