Moroccan authorities announced on Monday the arrest of a 22-year-old man in the northern city of Tangier, suspected of being linked to the terrorist organization ISIS and preparing to carry out terrorist operations within the kingdom.
The Central Bureau of Judicial Investigation stated in a statement, followed by the Video News Agency, that the operation was carried out based on intelligence information provided by the General Directorate for the Surveillance of National Territory. It resulted in the seizure of manuscripts related to criminal methods linked to cyber intrusion, as well as electronic devices, including a modified phone connected to electrical wires, in addition to equipment and chemical materials subjected to technical examination.
According to preliminary investigation data, the arrested individual is suspected of having conducted initial experiments to prepare explosive devices as part of potential terrorist plans, while investigations continue to uncover the nature of his activities and any possible connections.
The authorities added that the suspect has been placed under judicial custody, supervised by the competent public prosecutor's office for terrorism cases, to complete investigations and determine all circumstances related to the case.
This operation falls within the proactive security efforts made by Moroccan authorities to combat terrorism and extremism and to track individuals suspected of being involved in planning attacks targeting the country's security.
