The President of the Young Scientists Club announced that Iran has achieved 18 gold medals in international science competitions for 2026, stating: "This success was achieved under wartime conditions, despite restrictions on internet access, difficulties in holding in-person classes, and the use of laboratories and practical facilities."

In a press conference held today, Wednesday, at the club's headquarters, Reza Hosseini, the President of the Young Scientists Club, referred to the results of Iran's national teams in science competitions, saying: "This year, we earned 18 gold medals in international science competitions, while this number was only 11 medals last year." He emphasized that this year was exceptional for the Iranian Science Olympiad, filled with unprecedented achievements. He added: "These achievements were made under conditions that prevented many classes from being held in person due to the war, limited access to laboratories and practical training places, and internet outages that made it difficult for researchers to access the latest scientific resources around the world." Hosseini expressed his appreciation for the members of the national teams, scientific committees, and colleagues of the Young Scientists Club, stating: "Many members of their scientific committees are medal winners from previous years, who supported students with great empathy to achieve these remarkable results." *From three gold medals in physics to five gold medals in astronomy. He explained the results of the various branches of the Science Olympiad, saying: "The five-member Iranian team won three gold medals and two silver medals in the International Physics Olympiad, achieving the country's best result in this field in the past twenty years."

He added: "In the past eight years, Iran's gold medal tally in the International Physics Olympiad did not exceed one medal, but this year Iranian students were able to win three gold medals in a single round. Iran also ranked first globally for the first time in the experimental section of this Olympiad and won the trophy in this section." Referring to the performance of the Iranian national team in astronomy and astrophysics, Hosseini said: "Our five-member team managed to win all five gold medals in these competitions, ranking first globally for the third consecutive year." He continued: "In the theoretical section, an Iranian researcher ranked first globally, and in the practical section, an Iranian representative also placed first. Iranian researchers achieved the highest total points, along with the top three global rankings, and all individual awards in this cycle of the International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad were awarded to representatives from the country." The President of the Young Scientists Club considered this result one of the strongest Iranian outcomes in the history of the global Olympiad, praising the role of professors, mentors, and scientific committees in preparing these young scientists.

*Iran's first gold medal in artificial intelligence and first medal in geography. Speaking about Iran's other scientific achievements, Hosseini said: "In the Global Artificial Intelligence Olympiad, Iran succeeded in winning a gold medal for the first time; a significant achievement given the challenges posed by war and attacks on the national Artificial Intelligence infrastructure." He noted that only 10 to 15 countries have managed to win gold medals in these competitions, expressing hope that Iran would join the top three countries in the world in the Global Artificial Intelligence Olympiad within three years. He announced the success of the Iranian girls' team in the Global Geography Olympiad, stating: "The Iranian girls' team won a medal in this Olympiad for the first time and ranked first globally in the team presentation section." He considered this achievement important in many ways, adding: "Having a completely Iranian girls' team at the highest level in these competitions has attracted the attention of participating countries, many of whom described it as an inspiring team." Hosseini also referred to Iran's participation in the Global Earth Sciences Olympiad, saying: "One of our students, Ms. Farahani, ranked first in the documentary film presentations section of these competitions at the World Federation of Earth Sciences level."

*Iran's active presence in managing the global Olympiad. The President of the Young Scientists Club, while discussing Iran's achievements in managing the Olympiad on the international stage, noted that this year Iran held the presidency of the Global Biology Olympiad, reflecting the trust that participating countries have in its scientific and administrative capabilities. He also announced the selection of an Iranian for the first time as a member of the question-design and ethics committee in the Global Mathematics Olympiad, stating: "Members of the ethics committee are selected by vote, and Navid Safaei, Iran’s representative, was elected to this position." Discussing Iran’s status in international scientific forums, Hosseini added: "These achievements show that Iran's presence on the global stage is not limited to participating in competitions and winning medals, but our country can also play an active role in policy-making, design, and management of these events." He also pointed to Iran hosting the scientific Olympiad, stating: "Iran's hosting of the engineering Olympiad in about 300 cities around the world simultaneously, with 73 countries participating in another international Olympiad held in Iran, is evidence of the country’s scientific capabilities and its standing in this field."

Hosseini added: "The participation of countries such as the United States, Russia, China, France, Germany, Switzerland, and Canada in scientific competitions held in Iran indicates the efficiency of Iranian scientists and the country's ability to design and manage international events." *Young scientists engaged in storytelling events during the scientific competition. In another part of his speech, the President of the Young Scientists Club referred to the participation of Iranian teams in global competitions, saying: "This year, national teams for the Science Olympiad were sent to the competitions as a caravan of 'Minab School,' with pink backpacks commemorating the martyrs of the 'Tree of Goodness' school in Minab symbolizing this caravan." He added: "These symbols and memorials in global competitions attracted the attention of participants from other countries and provided a basis for questions and discussions about the events that occurred in Iran." Hosseini noted that in addition to the scientific competition, young Iranian scientists sought to share their narrative about the country’s conditions with others, stating: "Students presented souvenirs, including keychains featuring the symbol of the school backpack and the phrase 'Minab School,' to participants from other countries. Some students also wore clothing featuring a map of Iran with a focus on Minab."

He continued: According to team members, students and some supervisors from other countries inquired about events in Iran, with some expressing their sympathy. These discussions provided an opportunity for young Iranian scientists to explain what happened in the country alongside their scientific activities. *The Iranian elite continued their journey despite difficulties. Hosseini asserted that this year’s achievements should not be reduced to just the number of medals, stating: "These results were achieved under conditions where students had many reasons to stop and despair, but their motivation to strive for their homeland and raise the Iranian flag encouraged them to continue their journey." He added: "Young scientists continued their studies, practical activities, and efforts to achieve the best results for the country despite the difficulties. These successes are the result of the efforts of the students themselves and the support of professors and members of scientific committees." He expressed hope for the continued growth of the Iranian Science Olympiad in the coming years and that the achievements of the country’s scientists would enhance Iran's scientific status on the international stage.
