The Ministry of Interior announced today, Thursday, that a member was injured during the operation to free a family held by a drug dealer who shot himself in Baghdad.

The ministry said in a statement received by "Video News Agency" that "in implementing security duties to enforce the rule of law and ensure the protection of citizens, a joint security force from the Command of the Federal Police and local police began an operation based on judicial approvals to arrest a wanted suspect under Article (431) of the Penal Code in the Nahrawan area of the capital, Baghdad."

It added that "this operation came based on a complaint filed by the suspect's father and based on a decision issued by the investigating judge, where the joint force began to head to the suspect's residence and completely cordon off the area."

It was pointed out that "upon the arrival of the force, the suspect, who is said to be involved in drug trafficking, took his family members hostage inside the house and confronted the tasked force by opening fire. The security forces dealt with the situation with high professionalism and total firmness to ensure the safety of the family, resulting in the injury of one member of the Federal Police Command."

It clarified that "after tightening the noose around the suspect, he shot himself, and he was immediately transferred to the hospital," confirming that "the situation has been fully controlled, and it continues its security duties with high professionalism to protect citizens."
