The Asian Football Confederation announced today the rescheduling of the 2027 AFC Asian Cup, which is set to take place in Saudi Arabia, to be held from December 23, 2027, until January 21, 2028, instead of the previously scheduled dates of January 7 to February 5, 2027.
The federation stated in a statement received by the Video News Agency that the decision to postpone was made after consultations with the local organizing committee and the Saudi Arabian Football Federation, in light of the current circumstances and developments in the region, which impose challenges related to travel and logistical arrangements.
It clarified that the organizing committee agreed to reschedule the tournament due to the unusual conditions preventing it from being held on its original date, noting that the new dates will be submitted to FIFA for approval.
The Asian Confederation confirmed that the decision aims to ensure the tournament is held in a manner that serves the interests of the participating teams, fans, and relevant parties, indicating that coordination with national federations, sponsors, and broadcasting and commercial partners will continue to mitigate the effects of the postponement.
