A member of the Parliamentary Oil, Gas, and Natural Resources Committee, Rabea Abdel Jalil, confirmed today, Tuesday, the impossibility of meeting the demands of the Kurdistan Region to obtain 14% of the general budget, emphasizing that the federal government is committed to adopting the percentage officially set by the Ministry of Planning, which is 12%.
Abdel Jalil said in a statement reviewed by the news agency, that "the region's demand to increase its financial share to 14% is impossible and cannot be implemented at all," pointing out that "the government is serious and strict in applying the approved percentages according to the surveys and data adopted by the Ministry of Planning, which determine the region's entitlement to only 12% without any transgression."
The committee member added that "raising this demand within the corridors of the House of Representatives will be met with significant and categorical rejection from most blocs and representatives from various governorates," noting that "the government is legally and morally obligated to adhere to the 12% rate, and that the distribution of federal wealth must be subject to fairness, population count, and deprivation indicators without yielding to any pressures or attempts to impose percentages outside the planning and official framework of the state."
